June 23, 2003 North Iowans Graduate from FastTrac New Venture ProgramTwelve North Iowans will graduate from the FastTrac New Venture course offered in Forest City, which is organized by North Iowa Area Community College’s Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and Small Business Development Center. The graduation ceremony will take place following final presentations on Tuesday, June 24, at approximately 7 p.m. in Thorson Hall at Waldorf College. Area participants include: Forest City: Brian Current, Lorae Current, Lindsay Kingland, Joann Barker, Valorie Marr, Rebecca Neades, Theresa Trimble, Kurt Knapp, and Jace McDaniel Clear Lake: John Burtness Garner: Jostin Heimer Thompson: Angela Payne During the ceremony, a Forest City dignitary will be on hand to present each graduate with a certificate of completion. FastTrac New Venture, for the start-up entrepreneur, helps aspiring business owners evaluate and define their business concepts. When completing the course, participants leave with a blueprint to successfully launch their business. Class topics include: feasibility, market research, marketing plan, financial analysis, pricing, presentation skills, etc. The FastTrac course in Forest City was led by Rich Petersen, director of the Small Business Development Center, and Tim Putnam, associate director of the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. Guest speakers for the course included: Maureen Collins-Williams, Dave Arndt, Rod Craft, Steve Bakke, and Ruth Miller. “I am very impressed with FastTrac,” Rebecca Neades, Director of the Forest City Chamber of Commerce said. “The information presented provided a great general overview about business start-up, and it could help potential business owners develop a large group of contacts.” Neades said she was glad to see the emphasis placed on a feasibility analysis for a new business, as this study will help the fledgling business owner see if his/her idea has the potential for success. The next FastTrac New Venture course will take place on the NIACC campus starting Thursday, September 18.
