NIACC Vocal Music Department Celebrates Quodlibet's 28th Anniversary

"Something's Coming" and it's going to be great, as the North Iowa Area Community College Vocal Music Department will present their 28th annual spring show, Quodlibet 2003. This year's program features music from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. In addition to the opening "Something's Coming," the 60-voice concert choir will perform well-known songs such as "Tonight," "Maria," and "I Feel Pretty."

The show choir "NIACC Singers" will also be featured on the program. This select ensemble features 30 singers from 13 different communities around North Iowa and southern Minnesota. Kris Christensen of Dance Unlimited in Mason City created the NIACC Singers' choreography.

Christensen said of working with the group, "They're such a high-energy, extremely talented troop of young people who work so hard. Jayson's done a great job of filling large shoes, and I have the time of life working with the NIACC Singers."

The program will be completed by solos and small groups performing songs including "It Had to Be You," "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Let It Be," "Imagine," and many more.

Jayson Ryner, director of the show, said the audience should expect "a high-energy, exciting, and entertaining performance."

"Students auditioned for the group and solo slots," Ryner said. "They've been rehearsing for the show since January. As we're putting the final touches on the program, the students are really excited about how the show is coming together."

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 13 at 3:00 p.m.; and Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. In addition, this year there will be a free matinee performance for area middle and junior high schools with over 1,100 students planning to attend.

Tickets are $6 and may be purchased by calling the NIACC Box Office at 422-4188 or 1-888-GO NIACC, ext. 4188. Tickets are also available from HyVee East and HyVee West in Mason City, NIACC vocal students, or at the door.
