NIACC and UNI Partner on Technology
Education Degree
North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and the University of
Northern Iowa (UNI) are pleased to announce a new partnership, which will
benefit students interested in a Technology Education degree, the program
that prepares students to teach high school and junior high school
industrial technology classes.
“This partnership utilizes the resources available at both institutions as
we work together to address the need for teachers in Industrial
Technology,” Mozack said. “The ability to deliver UNI technical courses to
students through this partnership provides the opportunity for them to
explore this major and complete two thirds of the Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Technology Education on the NIACC campus.”
This partnership means that students obtaining an Associate of Applied
Science (AAS) degree at NIACC can earn 20 UNI semester hours at NIACC.
Students earning an Associate of Arts (AA) degree at NIACC can earn up to
35 semester hours at NIACC. These hours can be taken while finishing an AA
degree or following graduation.
Then, students will take approximately one year to complete courses at UNI,
followed by one semester of local student teaching. Students will then
graduate from UNI with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Technology Education.
The announcement was made by Tucki Folkers, NIACC Interim Vice President
for Academic Affairs; Larry Mozack, NIACC Registrar; Charles Johnson, UNI
Industrial Technology Professor; and Roger Kueter, UNI Director of Student
Field Experiences, during a January 14 news conference on the NIACC
campus.
“Cooperative partnerships like this provide a wide range of opportunities
for students,” John Sjolinder, NIACC Industrial Division Chair, said.
“Instead of a student needing to go to the university setting, it brings
the university setting to them.”
