FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 3, 2005 Ref. 2473 Bryant Receives North Iowa Builders Exchange Scholarship Joshua Bryant, a student in North Iowa Area Community College’s climate control program, was awarded with a scholarship from the North Iowa Builders Exchange. The North Iowa Builders Exchange selected Bryant, of Mason City, for the scholarship based upon his program of study, school and community activities, special honors and awards and career plans. Once he completes his education at NIACC, Bryant plans to start his own business. "I am really surprised and happy to get this scholarship," Bryant said. "My grandpa owns his own business, so I thought I’d try owning my own business, too. Everything we’ve done in class at NIACC has really helped me prepare for that." Bryant is enrolled in NIACC’s climate control program, which provides opportunities to develop the skills necessary to work in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) industry. The climate control curriculum allows students to study areas of residential and commercial heating and air conditioning. "I was glad that one of our students got the scholarship to start his own shop in the area," Tom Crowley, NIACC Climate Control Instructor, said. "Scholarship opportunities really help students with school debts. Plus, the North Iowa Builders Exchange scholarship is a great opportunity. I’ll encourage the students in our program take advantage and apply for it again next year." The North Iowa Builders Exchange, a non-profit organization, works to
promote and educate the building industry. As part of the group’s
mission, they work with local schools to promote education in the
building trades fields and award scholarships annually.
