I serve on the (BOARD NAME) Board for North Iowa Area Community College, and during my time here, I’ve seen an incredible cross section of students succeed at our school.  I’ve seen high school students who are taking community college math and science classes to help prepare them for the rigors of college.  I’ve also seen nontraditional students who came back to college due to being laid off from their job or in hopes of earning a better living for their families.

Most of these students end up staying in Iowa after they graduate from a community college.  As you may know, nearly 90% of all community college graduates stay in Iowa after they graduate.

The current economic climate in Iowa creates a need to develop support for skilled worker training and economic development endeavors.  The influx of new students and displaced workers turning to the Community Colleges of Iowa for regional access to educational and training opportunities will continue to grow.   Iowa’s community colleges need to be part of the economic solution for our state.
