NIACC Medical Terminology II

Medical Terminology II is a continuation of Medical Terminology I utilizing a programmed, word building system to learn word parts to construct and analyze new terms. Emphasis is placed on spelling, definition, usage, and pronunciation of medical terms. The text is The Language of Medicine, 7e by Davi-Ellen Chabner. A CD Rom and audio tapes are part of this package. A separate WebTutor access code must be purchased with the text. The course is self-paced to enable the student to progress at a pace conducive to your schedule. The only requirement is that the tests must be completed as outlined in the syllabus.

Assignments: There are no formal assignments to submit to the instructor. It is suggested that the student:

· Progress through each assigned chapter in the text

· Complete the chapter exercises

· Complete the CD Rom exercises

· Complete the Web based quizzes/examinations

· Listen to the audio tapes

After completion of these activities, the student should be prepared for testing.

The syllabus will guide the student to test after the assigned chapters have been completed. Medical Terminology II consists of chapters thirteen through twenty-two of the text.

Tests: There are ten tests for Medical Terminology II. Each test consists of questions which may be multiple choice, matching, or completion. Each test must be proctored by a qualified person in an acceptable institution. This institution may be in the Student Learning Center at NIACC, or if the student is at a distant location, a school or library in your area may also be used. The instructor will work with the student to make arrangements for an acceptable proctor. Students may take tests whenever you are prepared to do so. The student is encouraged to "map out" or plan how you will complete the course at the onset to avoid running out of time before completing all of the course work. There is no comprehensive final.

Grades: Your grade is determined by the accumulation of points from the ten tests. The instructor will send test results to the student via email within 2 days of receiving the test. The syllabus will outline the number and type of questions for each test.
