Location: West Campus Classrooms #1 & 3, Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa, Mason City
Purpose: This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for resuscitating the infant and child in cardiopulmonary arrest, respiratory failure, shock and to discuss special considerations related to other pediatric illness/injury and care based on the 2005 AHA Guidelines.
Program Objectives: *Discuss the knowledge and skills necessary for resuscitating the infant or child victim in cardiopulmonary arrest. *Recognize the child in respiratory failure and/or shock and develop an appropriate sequence of interventions to stabilize the child and prevent the child from progressing to full cardiopulmonary arrest. *Demonstrate resuscitation motor skills, including bag-mask ventilation, intubation, defibrillation and intraosseous line placement. *Discuss the special situations and ethical considerations required in pediatric resuscitation and care. *Participants appropriately demonstrating these approaches and techniques and achieving a score of 85 percent or more on the written examination will successfully complete the course.
Pre-requisites: Successful completion of a BLS Healthcare Provider course within the last 24 months is required. Register early.

This program has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 11.0 prescribed credit hours by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa designates this educational activity for a maximum of 11 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
