Location: West Campus Classrooms #1 & 3, Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa, Mason City

Purpose: This course is designed to update the participant on cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary for resuscitating the infant and child in cardiopulmonary arrest, respiratory failure and shock according to 2005 AHA guidelines.

Program Objectives: *Review knowledge and skills necessary for resuscitating the infant or child in cardiopulmonary arrest. *Recognize the child in respiratory failure and/or shock and develop an appropriate sequence of interventions to stabilize the child and prevent the child from progressing to full cardiopulmonary arrest. *Function as the team leader in the evaluation scenario: direct the sequence of interventions, operate the defibrillator and monitor, perform CPR, manage the IV line, administer appropriate medications and manage the airway. *Discuss the special situations and ethical considerations required in pediatric resuscitation and care. *Participants appropriately demonstrating these approaches and techniques and achieving a score of 85 percent or more on the written examination will successfully complete the course.
