WMF HotFix

There is an on-going 'attack'
aimed at all Windows computers running Windows 98 and above. NIACC Technology
Services staff have found a temporary security fix. Microsoft is scheduled
to deliver the 'official' fix on January 10, 2006.
This patch will not impact how
your system works, but will assure that a security breach will not happen
to your machine.
To install this patch on a system not
connected to the campus network, follow the steps defined below...
>>
Download WMF Security Hole Hotfix <<
- Download the .MSI file to a folder
on your computer (e.g. C:\HotFix).
Keep track of this location for later use.
- Open a command prompt window (Start
/ Run / cmd)
- In the DOS/Command Prompt Windows,
type the command msiexec /i
drv:\folder\WMFHotfix-1.1.14.msi
where
drv:\folder
represents the location the file was stored in Step 1. For
example, if you downloaded the .msi file to C:\HotFix, the command line
would be msiexec /i
C:\HotFix\WMFHotfix-1.1.14.msi
This HotFix can be uninstalled when the Microsoft solution
is available.
