The North Iowa Business Incubator welcomes two new businesses: Capital Derivative Research and The Tub Guy.
“These represent two very different businesses,” said Mark Olchefske, Business Accelerator & Incubator Director. “However, fit within the mission to be a multi-use resource for all different types of enterprises. The incubator is a great place to see if your business model is workable and if you are cut out for entrepreneurship.”
Capital Derivative Research (CDR) is led by Sonia Brietzke, a stock researcher and Iowa State University graduate. CDR is a private equity research firm that operates primarily in the U.S. stock market. It develops and sells research to other private equity firms and develops derivative models to increase investor returns. As part of the fastest growing sector of the financial services market, CDR helps private equity firms locate clients to raise capital.
“The space and services available through NIACC and the Pappajohn Center convinced me that this is where I needed to launch my business,” said Brietzke. “Being here allows me to put a solid foundation under my business and focus on long-term success.”
The Tub Guy has been in business for over a dozen years, but is now under new ownership. Bob Walker Jr. bought the business in late December from the founding family and is working through the transition. The Tub Guy specializes in revitalizing commercial and home bathrooms with new bathtub liners, shower surrounds and wall treatments. They are also introducing a new line of tubs with doors so people with limited mobility don’t have to step over the side of the tub.
“The Pappajohn Center has been there to advise me through the process,” said Walker. “The decisions are mine, but having experienced businesspeople to ask questions and bounce ideas off of is very helpful to me.”
The national NACCE Innovation Award winning NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center provides college level courses and degree programs in entrepreneurship, as well as comprehensive consulting services for business start-ups, existing industries and owner transitions in the North Iowa region. Space is available for start-up businesses in the North Iowa Business Incubator. For more information, contact the NIACC JPEC at 641-422-4111.
