Legacy Logistics Freight, Inc. of Mason City was recently certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) as a woman-owned business enterprise. Legacy Logistics Freight, Inc. is a freight brokerage owned and operated by Sarah Novacek and represents several national brands in placing shipments with independent truckers. WBENC is one of a handful of certifying agencies recognized by the federal government. Federal law provides a variety of incentives for women and minority-owned business enterprises and requires or encourages federal agencies and contractors to use them when possible. The certification process is demanding to assure that the business is in fact both majority owned and actively managed by eligible persons. Novacek owns 100% of the stock of Legacy Logistics Freight, Inc. and leads the company as President. She shares day-to-day management duties with office manager, Mary Novacek and sales leader, Abby Ryan.
“This is a major milestone in the growth of Legacy Logistics Freight. It’s thrilling to see the on-going success of Sarah and her Legacy team in the NIACC John Pappajohn Business Incubator,” says Daniel Pitts Winegarden, NIACC’s director of Business Acceleration.
The NIACC John Pappajohn Center and its North Iowa Small Business Development Center (SBDC) helped Novacek through the application process. Novacek was recently recognized by the Iowa SBDC as the 2015 Deb Dalziel Female Entrepreneur of the Year for the state of Iowa.
“The Pappajohn Center team continues to help us turn a good family business into a great growth business,” said Sarah Novacek, President of Legacy Logistics Freight, Inc. “They help us think and act on a higher level. They help us tell our story in ways that matter to our clients and business relationships. We couldn’t have won WBE certification without the Pappajohn team.”
