Job Responsibilities: POSITION SUMMARY: Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents the care of infusion/oncology patients requiring infusion therapy of ages greater than eighteen. Directly guides the care delivered by the patient care partners. Is the RN navigator and the Telehealth Liaison for patients, family practice and oncology services. Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents the care of ambulatory patients within a clinic setting. Assists with any procedures and provides ordered treatments as required. Provides and documents patient education and works cooperatively with members of the Patient Empowered Care teams to integrate patient’s care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DETAILED DUTIES:
Maintains appropriate staffing and ensuring that staff is performing job responsibilities.
Demonstrates knowledge and use of chemotherapeutic agents and medications
Demonstrates competence in chemotherapy administration through ONS
Demonstrates effective time management and relationship building skills.
Demonstrates competence in port access and nursing procedures
Demonstrates effective communication skills to manage complex patient and family needs.
Ability to assess and recognize normal/abnormal responses to treatments and institute appropriate interventions
Demonstrates skills to assess and intervene in life-threatening situations
Round with attending provider, huddling, and multi-disciplinary rounding.
Ensures policies and procedures are adhered to.
Open communication with staff, leaders, and providers and gives immediate feedback.
Able to work as a staff nurse and complies with RN basic/RN Advance staff nurse job description.
Addresses staff/patient issues then follows chain of command depending on severity.
Responsible for assisting in ER/OB/MS as needed.
Has responsibility for the patient unit and ensures notification of physician in a timely manner for patient status changes.
Assist staff and providers with E.H.
Delegate tasks as needed.
Registered nursing degree from a nursing school.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing or similar field.
ONS chemotherapy certification within 6 months.
Current general nursing and oncology experience.
One-year current hospital nursing as med/surg, infusion or outpatient clinic
Telemetry Competent – Ability to read and operate cardiac monitor, recognize normal/abnormal rhythms, and institute appropriate interventions
BLS (CPR) required.
ACLS, PALS, and NRP certified within 6 months.
