ACLS Course Schedule
ACLS PROVIDER COURSE
This course is designed to provide health care providers the knowledge and skills needed in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies, acute arrhythmia, stroke and acute coronary syndromes (ACS) based on the AHA Guidelines.
Objectives:
- Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
- Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
- Airway management
- Related pharmacology
- Management of ACS and stroke
- Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
Pre-course Requirements: proficient in BLS CPR skills; reading and interpreting ECGs; understand ACLS pharmacology, complete the ECG Pharmacology Pre-course Self-assessment. This is mandatory. Print your certificate and bring with you to class. A passing score of 70% or above is required to attend the class. You may take the self-assessment as many time as needed to achieve a passing score. Student Manual is required for class participation and will be mailed 20 days prior to course. Pre-course reading and preparation is mandatory. Continuing Education hours are contingent upon successful completion of the course. Registration deadline: 20 days prior to class. Class size limit: 6
Audience: 10 Contact Hours for Registered Nurses, 12.5 FE CEHs for EMS. Other health care personnel will receive a CE certificate reflecting 10.25 hours of education. NIACC is Iowa Board of Nursing Provider #3 and State Department of Health Emergency Medical services approved sponsor #2 of continuing education programs for EMS Personnel. Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with ACCME® Essential Areas and Elements and Iowa Medical Society (IMS) policies through the joint providership of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and North Iowa Area Community College. Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa is accredited by the IMS to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Continuing education hours will be awarded on the basis of actual presence and attendance and on satisfactory completion of the program. Participants need to be present for the entirety of the program to receive continuing education credit.
