NIACC Welcomes Jared Barnes as Director of the Performing Arts and Leadership Series

North Iowa Area Community College is pleased to welcome Jared Barnes as the new Director of the NIACC Performing Arts and Leadership Series.

Jared is a lifelong North Iowan who first discovered his passion for the arts right here in the community. He began his college journey at NIACC in 2005, where he was active in concert band, jazz band, choir, and the NIACC Singers. He later earned his degree in Music Education from Wartburg College.

For nearly two decades, Jared has taught instrumental music to students in grades five through twelve, directing ensembles that regularly received superior ratings at state contests. Under his leadership, both the Newman and Northwood-Kensett High School concert bands were recognized as Class 1A Honor Bands at the Iowa Bandmasters Association conference.

Outside the classroom, Jared has worked extensively as a performer, conductor, and music director. He has collaborated with a variety of ensembles, directed nearly 20 musical theater productions with Cedar Summerstock Theatre, and composed music performed at festivals, honor bands, and national conferences, including the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. His published works have been recognized on several national lists and are included in the well-regarded Teaching Music through Performance in Band series.

In his new role at NIACC, Jared is looking forward to building on the Performing Arts and Leadership Series’ strong tradition of offering meaningful arts experiences for audiences of all ages.
