The Common Read is part of the NIACC Leadership Series and is designed to engage North Iowa Area Community College students, staff, faculty, and community members in a unified activity. With generous support from MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and the Friends of the Series, we are able to share this year’s Common Read author with our community as a complimentary message for all.
Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha is the pediatrician who first researched and revealed the lead in the blood of children in Flint, Michigan. In her powerful book, What the Eyes Don’t See, she shares her first-hand account of her work discovering the Flint water crisis and her own story as an immigrant, doctor, and scientist. Named one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World,” she sets a powerful example for how everyday people can fight for justice, self-determination, and the ability to build a better world.
Join Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha and Dr. Charlene Widener, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Learning at NIACC, for a virtual conversation on Wednesday, November 11 at 6:30 p.m. The conversation will be livestreamed for our community to view as a complimentary message and may be accessed on the NIACC YouTube account or the NIACC Performing Arts Series & Leadership Series Facebook page when it airs.
This engagement is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Iowa Arts Council and the Crane Group.
