NIACC Launches “Let’s Light ’Em Up” Campaign to Elevate Trojan Athletics and Serve the Region
When the lights come on at NIACC, they represent more than competition, they represent pride, opportunity, and community. Today, North Iowa Area Community College officially launches the “Let’s Light ’Em Up” campaign, a strategic initiative designed to enhance athletic facilities and expand opportunities for student athletes while creating venues that will serve communities across the region.
Momentum is already building thanks to a significant lead investment from the NIACC Foundation, whose early commitment is helping propel the initiative forward and inspire additional philanthropic support.
Leadership for the effort comes from NIACC alumnus Phil Johnson, widely recognized for his longstanding support of regional athletic programs and his commitment to expanding opportunities for student athletes across North Iowa.
At its core, “Let’s Light ’Em Up” focuses on transformative facility enhancements that will strengthen recruitment, elevate the student athlete experience, and position NIACC Athletics for long-term success. Plans include upgraded baseball, softball, and soccer venues designed to host local and regional tournaments, youth competitions, and community events – anchored by a state-of-the-art fieldhouse that will provide year-round training, competition, and gathering space for athletes and the broader community.
“This is about giving our student athletes an experience that reflects their commitment and talent,” said Ryan Flickinger, NIACC Athletic Director. “Modern, high-quality facilities impact recruiting, retention, performance, and pride. But they also create opportunities to welcome teams and visitors from across the region, bringing new energy and activity to our campus.”
The improved athletic facilities will expand NIACC’s ability to host regional competitions and community events, strengthening partnerships with local schools, youth programs, and community organizations. Increased tournament play and regional events are expected to generate additional economic activity for Mason City and surrounding communities.
NIACC President Joel Pedersen emphasized the broader regional significance of the campaign.
“NIACC has always been a community college in the truest sense,” said President Pedersen. “The ‘Let’s Light ’Em Up’ campaign is an investment not only in our student athletes, but in North Iowa. These facilities will serve local families, visiting teams, and community partners for years to come. This is about building something that benefits the entire region.”
The campaign includes naming opportunities, corporate sponsorships, and advertising partnerships, along with permanent recognition on a dedicated donor wall. These opportunities allow supporters to align their brand or family legacy with the future of NIACC Athletics while making a visible investment in student success and regional vitality.
