North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) is expanding its Workforce Academy offerings with a new Pharmacy Technician Certificate program beginning August 31. The fully online, 16-week program was developed in response to conversations with local pharmacists who identified a need for trained pharmacy technicians prepared to enter the workforce with industry-recognized knowledge and skills.

Using the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) curriculum, the program prepares students for careers in retail pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings. Students will gain the skills needed to assist licensed pharmacists with prescription processing, pharmacy operations, medication inventory, pharmacy terminology, and more. The ExCPT certification exam is included in the cost of tuition, providing graduates with the opportunity to earn the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential after successfully passing the exam and meeting Iowa Board of Pharmacy requirements.

“A career in pharmacy provides consistent routine, but also a chance to learn new skills as the profession grows,” said Alyssa Vosecky, PharmD, instructor for the program. “Pharmacy technicians play a critical role on the healthcare team and have a wide variety of career options.”

Designed for flexibility, the program is fully online, allowing students to complete coursework on their own schedule while meeting weekly assignment deadlines. Tuition assistance may be available for those who qualify.

The Pharmacy Technician Certificate program begins August 31, 2026 and registration closes August 24th.
