Delivery Driver/Yard Worker

Job Responsibilities: Position Purpose:
The Delivery Driver/Yard Worker is responsible for delivering materials to job sites, helping customers pull orders, inspecting the merchandise, making returns, maintaining trucks, reporting shortages, and claims to Yard Foreman, and assisting in loading and storing of materials.
Principal Responsibilities:
Provides sales assistance to customers on orders and returns by providing exceptional customer service to external and internal customers.
Locates and pulls correct items by type, style, and quantity as directed to fill orders completely, quickly, and accurately.
Operates forklift to load and unload trucks as directed by supervisors. Verifies count is correct and inspects for any damages.
Assists truck drivers in loading and unloading merchandise and materials, ensuring it is safely and properly handled to prevent personal injury and product damage. Ensures that products are stored in proper locations.
Organizes and secures loads. Ensures that loads are properly secured and flagged for safe delivery.
Completes required paperwork (orders filled, materials received, and forklift inspection sheets).
Performs duties in a safe manner, observing established safety procedures and supporting companies’ policies and safety procedures at all times.
Maintains clean and orderly work area.
Checks orders for accuracy.
Obtains approval on all loads from the Yard Foreman for proper count and conditions of load.
Accounts for all company funds, such as C.O.D.
Delivers and unloads materials to customer’s satisfaction.
Completes daily equipment inspections.
Records all merchandise that is returned from deliveries.
Assists in unloading material returned for credit.
Relays messages sent by customers while on the job.
Assists supervisor, other employees, and other works areas, as needed.
Assists in removing snow and controlling icy conditions around the yard, parking lot, and sidewalks.
Observes traffic safety rules and safe driving habits. Focuses on driving tasks so as not to become distracted by other tasks and technology.
Education/Experience:
A high school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) is required.
Possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
Job Knowledge:
Skill in operating a forklift and commercial motor vehicles.
Skills in driving trucks and lumber dumping
Knowledge in working with building materials (construction, retails, or sales)
Ability to tow and back up trailers
Physical Job Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be able to perform physical work exerting up to 75 pounds and frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching overhead to grasp materials.
Must have accurate visual acuity, depth perception, field, or vision with or without corrective lenses.
Must be able to walk frequently.
This work is performed in all weather conditions and you will work with mechanical equipment on a daily basis.
Related Skills:
Ability to do basic math, read instructions, and complete forms.
Communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
Knowledge of road restrictions.
Knowledge of roadside inspections and load securement requirements.
Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
Ability to use a computer is preferred
Position Relationships: Reports to Yard Foreman.
Internal: Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with the Yard Foreman and other Woodford Lumber and Home Team members.
External: Works professionally and helpfully with customers and as a representative of Woodford Lumber and Home to the general public.
