Join up to three ensembles right at NIACC – the North Iowa Concert Band, the North Iowa Symphony Orchestra and NIACC Jazz Ensemble. The Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra are composed of NIACC students and community members from North Iowa, and membership in the Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble are by auditions only. Private lessons are also available.
The North Iowa Concert Band rehearses one night each week in preparation for at least one major performance each semester. This ensemble is open to all NIACC students and community members in the North Iowa area. School instruments are available for students not owning their own instruments.
Like the concert band, the orchestra involves NIACC students and community members from the North Iowa area. This group generally performs 3 times a year, with one concert being for the children of the area elementary schools. Membership in NISO is by audition.
This group concentrates on improvisation, swing interpretation, and jazz repertoire from 1930 to the present in rehearsals twice each week. Presenting one or two major concerts each year, as well as hosting the NIACC Jazz Festival, membership in the NIACC Jazz Ensemble is also by audition.
