The Power of Empowerment: A Look At the Process of Independent Documentary Filmmaking

Course description:
An in-depth look at the process of independent documentary filmmaking in a social justice setting. Class will briefly discuss the technical aspect of filmmaking but will mainly focus on the process of building a story arc and creating a narrative from real life experiences that draws the audience and leaves them feeling empowered. Will screen instructor’s documentary, “I Will Be: An Introduction to the Effects of Youth Violence On A Split Community” and discuss the process of evoking emotion about a subject that is very sensitive.
