North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) invites adults ages 23 and up to apply for Extreme Makeover: College Edition – a unique makeover that changes lives. NIACC has been providing adult students with this opportunity to return to college at no cost for 20 years.

Extreme Makeover: College Edition is a contest where two deserving winners receive an entire year of free tuition, textbooks, and more. Three other finalists will win half-price tuition to NIACC for the 2026-27 academic year.

“For 20 years, Extreme Makeover: College Edition has helped adult learners transform their lives through education,” said Anne Boyer, Director of Admissions at NIACC. “Whether you’re looking to start a new career, finish a degree you began years ago, or discover new opportunities, this could be the year that changes everything.”

“Winning the Extreme Makeover contest in 2021 was life-changing for me,” said past Extreme Makeover winner Oscar Madong. “At the time, I thought it was like any other scholarship, but it opened up opportunities I never imagined. Winning the prestigious national Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship that is enabling me to complete both my undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering and pursue a graduate degree of my choice, all fully funded, I was truly made over by winning the contest in 2021.”

“Receiving the NIACC Extreme Makeover: College Edition scholarship in 2020 was such an incredible blessing to my family and me,” said Lydia Thompson, a past Extreme Makeover winner. “That scholarship allowed me to graduate college debt free and gave me the opportunity to pursue a dream I had put off for many years. It truly showed me that it is never too late to decide what you want to be when you grow up!”

To enter this year’s contest, simply fill out the online form and tell us why you need or deserve an educational makeover. If you’re at least 23 years old and haven’t taken a NIACC credit class in the past three years, you’re eligible to apply for Extreme Makeover: College Edition.
